Poison Ivy (latin: Toxicodendron spp.) is a notorious plant that, if you don't know what it looks like, you will once it finds you! It is native to North America and Asia.
The saying, 'Leaves of three, leave it be!' is a common refrain of newcomers to the recognition of this plant.
She is adaptable and resilient, growing in three main forms: a trailing vine forming a carpet on the ground, a large bush up to three feet high, or as a vine up a tree, blending in with the tree's foliage. She is the epitome of "look, don't touch", and leaves a harsh lesson if we neglect this. As an 'edge' species, she seems to be on guard to protect the woodlands.
