English Ivy (latin: Hedera helix) is an evergreen spreading plant, preferring to climb trees, cliffs, or walls, but will also cover the ground if it has nothing to climb.
Ivy is easy to grow – just plant it and watch it go! While it is beautiful and prolific, care must be taken that it does not become destructive. While living on Vancouver Island, I came upon a property on which the ivy was left to spread. It engulfed the towering cedars and maples in the small woodland lot – some of which were smothered, standing skeletons.
Ivy symbolizes durability, resilience, friendship, vibrancy, and opportunity.
